well here is the story:

going down I-95 when my wife's bike just shut off and we rolled to a stop on the off ramp just ahead. thought it might have been low oil but no. the engine light comes on and flashes constantly, while the fuel pump is buzzing with the flash of the engine light. everything seems to work right when turning the ignition on, then the light flashes and fuel pump buzzes along with it. thinking i need a new pump, no dealership i trust around to work on it, so it's me and a service manual.

just wondering if any of you guys out there have had this problem before and could steer me in the right direction on where to start. the removal looks straight forward but was thinking it might just be the filter but how can we test that without putting it back in and filling up again, also the manual says i need a new drain plug??? that sounds dumb to me since it's a nice metal plug.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is no codes on the digital dash part, i don't have a vdts, and it just buzzes in one second intervals until you turn it off. doesn't stop! you can feel the frame vibrate on the side of the fuel pump, when i disconnect it the buzzing stops?? figure that's what it should be but don't know where to start(filter or pump first)??

there should be plenty of gas since we only went 60 miles on a fresh tank of 91 octane. it's a 03 xb9s. was running like a champ the whole way down. once we got into heavier traffic she just quit. thought maybe it overheated. nope not the answer. you feel the vibration from the fuel pump inside the frame when the light is flashing and buzzing. everything has juice lights horn gauges tail kickstand switch seems to be ok turns over great just no ignition but the buzzing coming from the fuel pump but that could just be their way of getting it to shut down. i don't know.

well good news......

the fuel pump is priming when i turn the switch on, the gauges sweep, the engine light still flashes and the fan kicks on and it's been sitting in the garage for two days i don't think it's that hot maybe 55 degrees outside. got a charger on the battery and gonna try to start it here in a bit.

i'll keep you guys posted!!!!

Just to add (may not help). My 2009 XB9SX did that once. Engine light came on then off. Once and decel, once and cruising speed so I couldn't get what was causing it. While pullin in the bike just stopped. Guages spiked and fuel primed like someone had hit the kill switch. I finally found that the V-Twin vibration had caused the positive battery cable to start to seperate at the terminal. I cut back all the wires, and soldered everything back together. Put on a new copper lug, added some shrink tube and away I went. No problems since then.

did your bike start back up after you got reset?? because mine rolls over and over and over but doesn't even sputter like it wants to start. smells like it has fuel. but reading more into it there's ecm, fuel pump, coil, i think that the best idea is to get a scan and go from there.

ya. No problems with it what so ever after that. Good idea. Get it checked out and go from there. Ignition issues are NOT my fav things to diagnose. Good Luck!!

Read this: http://www.sporttwin...-trouble-codes/

It would be better if you had a VDSTS for sure but otherwise you are going to get your hands dirty.

I'm not real clear on what the problem is. Is it acting like the battery is toast? Not enough juice to fire or turn over? Or does it turn over with plenty of energy but no fuel?

turns over just fine, there's just nothing else happening. we have a used ecm on the way from another dealer and we're going to try that so i don't spend multiple hours chasing wires. hopefully back on the road soon. it threw every code that it had. hopefullly it's just the ecm and not a chaffed wire somewhere.

its a pita, but pull out a plug, put the wire back on it and try turning it over.

if your plug doesn't spark it may be your coil, or ecm.

if it does spark no clue.
limits?, what limits?

there is no spark on either plug i checked those first. looked the plugs wires all over and did an ohm test on them, they were fine. all the lights work just fine and the starter is fine. nothing else works. all the sensors are tripped out one codes and a shit bag of problems so i believe it's the ecm or a chaffed wire somewhere in the harness. i hope it's not a wire that would just suck a$$.

all the fuses seemed to be fine. but i suppose i should put a tester on them to make sure. i'll have to go check that out tomorrow since it's sitting at a shop now for almost 2 weeks with no answer. what is wrong with the world that you can't get something worked on.....lmao.

The buell factory techs found it!! it was a slightly shorted speed sensor. wtf. 2 months down and it only cost me $300 at a dealership. love it. no computers were picking up a bad sensor. they had to call the buell factory tech and he found it within 10 minutes.
